The opening of SPIE Student Chapter in our University

February 3, 2017 Student Chapter of the International Society for Optics and Photonics SPIE was opened in our university based on Scientific-Educational center "Biomedical Engineering" and Laboratory of Biomedical Photonics of the the University Clinic. Thus, our Student Chapter became the 15th in Russia!

International Society for Optics and Photonics SPIE has actively supported talented students around the world, providing opportunities for professional development and education. Participation in the student office paves the way for scientific publications, participation in international conferences and communication with scientists around the world. Annually SPIE society provides a grant to support the activity of chapters, moreover, each year one member of the chapter has the opportunity to attend one of the conferences organized by SPIE society.

 

Suggested Activities
Many Chapter activities are eligible for SPIE support. Ideas may include:

  • Organize an informal lecture with a popular professor from the department
  • Organize a student lecture series
  • Invite an industry or academic speaker
  • Tour optics industry facilities
  • Host a public lab tour for community members
  • Create and maintain a Chapter web page
  • Organize a jobfair
  • Work with teachers to improve their optics knowledge
  • Promote optics to pre-university students: develop workshops, volunteer to supplement science and math education, organize a science fair
  • Mentoring of secondary science and technology students
  • Promote the optics/photonics academic program within the college/university
