Open lecture by the leading scientist in the field of polarimetry Tatiana Novikova (France)

October 4, 2019, Orel State University held the open lecture " Multi-spectral Liquid Crystal-based Imaging Mueller Polarimetry for Biomedical Applications" by the leading scientist in this field – Tatiana Novikova (Head of the applied optics and polarimetry group, Laboratory of Physics of Interfaces and Thin Films, École Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France).

The lecture was organized by Orel State University SPIE Student Chapter and the staff of Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics as part of SPIE Visiting Lecturer program, as well as in the framework of Flagship University strategic project "University clinic of socially significant diseases".

The lecture covered both the physical and mathematical basics of polarimetric methods and examples of specific applications of these methods for optical non-invasive diagnosis of malignant tumors. The lecture was attended by both students and teachers of the Institute of instrumentation, Automation and Information Technologies and students of the Medical Institute, who were interested in this direction and the possibilities of applying biophotonics methods for interdisciplinary research.

The employees of R&D Center of Biomedical Photonics held a scientific seminar and lab tour. They presented the main directions of the center’s research. The possibilities of cooperation on various topics developed at our University were discussed.

Orel State University SPIE Student Chapter and R&D Center of Biomedical Photonics plan to invite well-known scientists to conduct more lectures at Orel State University for development of new research directions and educational activities in the future.
