Successful performance at the competition-conference on optics and laser physics in Samara

November 12-15 2019, the XVII All-Russian Youth Competition-Conference of Scientific Works on Optics and Laser Physics was held in Samara. This competition was organized by the Samara branch of the Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Samara University and Samara scientific and educational center for optics and laser physics. The competition was attended by trainee researchers of Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics Ksenia Kandurova (master’s student in Biotechnical systems and technologies, direction "Biomedical Photonics and electronics") and Valery Shupletsov (master’s student in Instrumentation).

Students have presented the following oral reports at the section "Biophotonics" presenting the results of the projects supported by the Russian Scientific Foundation and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research: :

- K.Y. Kandurova, V.V. Shupletsov “Application of spectroscopic methods in diagnostics of liver neoplasms” (RSF project 18-15-00201);

- V.V. Shupletsov, K.Y. Kandurova “Development of optical phantom for fluorescence diagnosis of biological tissues” (RFBR project 18-02-00669).

According to the results of competition Ksenia Kandurova took the 1st place for her report in the section "Biophotonics" and Valery Shupletsov was awarded a diploma. In general, the commission and participants were interest in the reports presented.

During the conference, joint experiments were conducted at the research laboratory "Photonics" of Samara University together with the team of prof. Valery P. Zakharov. This is the leading laboratory in Russia in the field of non-invasive diagnostics by Raman spectroscopy. The delegation also presented a number of results and shared valuable experience with Samara colleagues.

As part of SPIE Orel State Univ. Chapter activities Ksenia Kandurova and Valery Shupletsov participated in the screening of the film "Viruses" at the Science Film Festival. The event was organized by Samara SPIE Student Chapter. Representatives of Student chapters from different Russian cities shared their experience of outreach, academic and professional activities with each other as well.
