Successful completion of the scientific training at the Institute of neurology at University College London

From August 31 to October 1, 2021 the research fellow of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory at Orel State University named after I. S. Turgenev Dr Andrey Vinokurov has completed the scientific training at the Institute of Neurology, University College London under the leadership of the head of the Department of Clinical And Movement Neurosciences Laboratory, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology Prof Andrey Abramov, as well as researchers Dr Plamena Stroh and Dr Noemi Esteras Gallego. This internship took place as part of a “megagrant” on "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

Within the framework of the scientific program, new methods of studying the parameters of the state of cells and the flow of intracellular processes were mastered (in particular, measuring the level of cytoplasmic pH, as well as cell permeoabilization for directly studying the state of mitochondria), studies of the physiological activity of the experimental compound, which are considered as the basis of the therapeutic drug for the correction of cellular metabolism.

In order to discuss the cooperation Andrey Vinokurov also visited the Francis Creek Institute, where he met with Prof Sonia Ghandi and the staff of her scientific group. Within the framework of the meeting, plans for joint experiments were agreed to study the role of protein oligomerization from the synuclein family in the development of pathology for neurodegenerative diseases.
