Successful performance of students of OSU at the conference "Biology - Science of the 21st Century"

On April 18-22, 2022 a school-conference for young scientists “Biology is a science of the 21st century” was held at the Pushchino Scientific Center for Biological Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences. An interdisciplinary team of students from Orel State University named after I.S. Turgenev tooks part in it and demonstrated works performed at the Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics and the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory.

In the section “Animal physiology and biomedicine” the following papers were presented:

1. The report of the 6th year student in the specialty 31.05.01 "General medicine", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Palalov Alexander (Palalov A.A., Seryogina E.S., Potapova E.V.) "Impaired mitochondrial metabolism in the model hepatocellular carcinoma". The work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation within the framework of project № 21-15-00325 "Development of a multimodal optical diagnostic technology for analysis of structural and functional state of the liver during percutaneous puncture biopsy."

2. The report of the postgraduate student of the 2nd course in the specialty 06.06.01 "Biological sciences", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Seryogina Evgeniya (Seryogina E.S. Ukolova P.A., Palalov A.A., Chaprov K.D., Dunaev A. V. ) "The role of synucleins in the redox signal of brain cells". The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

3. Poster presentation of the postgraduate student of the 4nd course in the specialty 12.06.01 "Photonics, instrument engineering, optical and biotechnical systems and technologies", the research assistant of the Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics, junior researcher of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Ekaterina Bryanskaya (Bryanskaya E.O., Dolgikh A.I., Dunaev A. V., Vinokurov A.Yu.) "The use of autofluorescence to assess the physiological state of cells." The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

 4. Poster presentation of the 3rd year student in the specialty 31.05.03 "Dentistry", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Dolgikh Angelina (Dolgikh A.I., Tagunov P.A., Vinokurov A.Yu., Zhunusov N.S., Krayushkina A.M.) “Mutation of the HPRT gene leads to a change in the parameters of the bioenergetics of brain cells.” The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

5. Poster presentation of the 1st year student of a master's degree direction 12.04.04 "Biotechnical systems and technologies", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Yulia Loktionova (Zharkikh E.V., Mikhailova M.A., Korolev A.I., Gorshkov A. Yu., Fedorovich A.A., Zherebtsov E.A.) "Laser Doppler flowmetry in a portable implementation for the detection of arterial hypertension." The work was carried out with the support of the RFBR grant within the framework of the scientific project No. 20-08-01153 "Development of the fundamental foundations for the creation and application of wearable multichannel laser Doppler sensors of blood microcirculation for the diagnosis of disorders of the cardiovascular system"

6. Poster presentation of the 4th year student in the specialty 19.03.01 "Biotechnology", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Mikenkina Margarita (Mikenkina M.A., Chaprov K.D., Berezhnov A.V.) "Regulation of the level of mitophagy in cells by synucleins ". The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

7. Poster presentation of the 3rd year student in the specialty 19.03.01 "Biotechnology", the laboratory assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Pogonyalova Marina (Pogonyalova M.Yu., Virivskaya E.V., Mikenkina M.A., Ukolova P.A., Popov D. Yu., Kuznetsova E.A., Vinokurov A.Yu.) “Restoration of mitochondrial function in the cells of patients diagnosed with endometriosis”. The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

8. Poster presentation of the 4th year student in the specialty 19.03.01 "Biotechnology", the research assistant of the Cell Physiology and Pathology Laboratory — Polina Ukolova (Ukolova P.A., Mikenkina M.A., Soldatova M.O., Vinokurov A.Yu.) " Overexpression of the mutant fus protein leads to mitochondrial dysfunction in brain cells.” The work was supported by the grant of the Government of the Russian Federation № 075-15-2019-1877 "Mitochondria as targets in the mechanism of neurodegenerative diseases".

In the section "Biotechnology and instrumentation" the following reports were presented:

1. The report of the postgraduate student of the 1st course in the specialty 12.06.01 "Photonics, instrument engineering, optical and biotechnical systems and technologies", the research assistant of the Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics — Valery Shupletsov (Shupletsov V.V., Goryunov I.A., Adamenkov N. A., Dremin V.V.) "Possibilities of using hyperspectral imaging to assess the degree of intestinal ischemia."

2. Poster presentation of the 2nd year student in the specialty 12.03.04 "Biotechnical systems and technologies", the laboratory assistant of the Research and Development Center of Biomedical Photonics — Lyubov Eratova (Eratova L.V., M.V. Volkov, Novikova I.N.) "The influence of direct optical dose-dependent generation of singlet oxygen on changes in the vascular bed”. This work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation Grant № 21-75-00086 "Exploring the effect of direct optical dose-dependent generation of singlet oxygen on changes in mechanisms of regulation of vascular tone" and Russian Federation President Grant MK-398.2021.4 "Optical Generation and Detection of Singlet Oxygen in Problems of Redox Biology" for state support of young Russian scientists - candidates of science.

3. Poster presentation of the 3rd year student in the specialty 12.03.01 "Instrumentation engineering" — Vadim Prizemin (Prizemin V.N., Golubova N.V., Kandurova K. Yu., Sumin D.S., Mamoshin A.V., Potapova E.V.) "Investigation of the parameters of bile in obstructive jaundice of various etiologies, using Raman spectroscopy." The research was supported by the Russian Science Foundation within the framework of the project № 21-15-00325 "Development of multimodal optical diagnostic technology for analysis of structural and functional state of the liver during percutaneous puncture biopsy".

The competition committee of the section "Biotechnology and instrumentation" highly appreciated the work of our students and awarded diplomas to Valery Shupletsov "For the best oral presentation" and Lyubov Eratova "For the best poster presentation".
