Internship in the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems physiology laboratory of the Pavlov Institute of Physiology Russian Academy of Sciences

July 24-28, 2017 researcher of the biomedical photonics laboratory of the University Clinic Evgeniya Seryogina successfully passed an internship in the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems physiology laboratory of Pavlov Institute of Physiology Russian Academy of Sciences.

During the internship the student acquainted with the work of research laboratory groups, with the housing conditions of laboratory animals in the Institute of Physiology vivarium, has mastered the techniques of animal preparations for the experiment (delivery from the vivarium, the fixation of the animal). Also, our student had a look at the invasive blood pressure measurement method, intravital cerebrovascular microscopy and method of study microcirculation in cerebral cortex of rats using laser Doppler flowmetry and optical tissue oximetry. She also was involved in surgical operations during the preparation for experiment (tracheotomy, femoral and carotid arteries isolation, craniotomy).

The obtained experience and competencies will contribute to better implementation of research works performed as part of one of the flagship university strategic directions – the National Science and Technology Center of Biomedical Photonics.
